Scottie Scheffler Opens Up 6-Stroke Lead At Tour
The PGA Tour has always been one of the most prestigious and well-respected golf tours in the world. And this week's Tour Championship is no different. With the top 30 players from the FedEx Cup standings competing for the $15 million-dollar purse, it's anyone's game. But after the first round, it was clear that Scottie Scheffler was a man on a mission. He shot a blazing 8-under par 62 to take a 2-stroke lead over the field.
Scheffler On Fire
Scheffler's opening round was nothing short of spectacular. He had a bogey-free round with eight birdies and finished the day with a 6-stroke lead over Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay. Scheffler's course management and iron play were exceptional, and his putting was lights out. He even sank a 50-foot putt on the 18th hole for a birdie to cap off his incredible round.
Can Scheffler Keep It Going?
The big question heading into the second round is whether Scheffler can keep up his blistering pace. The Tour Championship is a grueling tournament, and there are still three rounds left. But if Scheffler can continue to hit fairways and greens and sink putts like he did in the first round, he will be tough to beat. He's already proven that he has the ability to go low, so the rest of the field will have to bring their A-game if they want a chance to catch him.
Rahm and Cantlay Give Chase
Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay are the closest competitors to Scheffler after the first round, but they have a lot of ground to make up. Both players shot 2-under par 68s, which is respectable, but it pales in comparison to Scheffler's 62. That being said, Rahm and Cantlay are both talented players who have shown that they can go low when they need to. If Scheffler falters at all, look for Rahm and Cantlay to pounce and make a move up the leaderboard.
The Rest of the Field
While Scheffler, Rahm, and Cantlay stole the show in the first round, there are still 27 other players in the field who are capable of making a move. Players like Tony Finau, Cameron Smith, and Justin Thomas have all had solid seasons and could make a run at the title. And then there's the legendary Tiger Woods, who is always a threat to win, no matter what. It should be an exciting next few days of golf, and anything can happen.
